Ripple (XRP)

Transactions on the Ripple network are executed in approximately 3-5 seconds. This rapid speed is attributed to its consensus mechanism, which eliminates the need for extensive computations. Additionally, Ripple can handle up to 1,500 transactions per second (tps), making it highly scalable for banking operations.

Stellar also offers impressive transaction speeds, with confirmation times typically around 3-5 seconds. However, Stellar can handle around 1,000 tps, a figure that is still commendable but slightly lower than Ripple’s capabilities. Both Ripple and Stellar are designed to keep transaction fees low. Ripple charges a minimal fee of 0.00001 XRP per transaction, while Stellar’s transaction fees are set at 0.00001 XLM. These nominal fees promote the microtransaction capabilities that both platforms aim to harness.

Native Currencies

XRP

XRP is the native digital asset of the Ripple network. It serves as a bridge currency in cross-border transactions, providing liquidity between different fiat currencies. Financial institutions can utilize XRP to settle transactions instantly, which reduces the necessity for pre-funding the liquidity of accounts in various currencies.

XLM

XLM (Lumens) is Stellar’s native cryptocurrency, used primarily for transactions and as a means of facilitating cross-border exchanges.
